Grate the bread with a cheesegrater until you get breadcrumbs. Pull any large bits or crumbs apart with your hands. Leave them all to one side, we'll use them later on.
Then grate the cheddar cheese. Again, leave to one side-we'll use it later on.
Fill a big saucepan 2/3 full of water and put it onto boil.
Turn the grill on, we'll use it at the end, but need it to get hot first.
Once boiling, add a pinch of salt, then add your pasta. Cook this for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is ready. (To see if it is, scoop out a bit on your fork and taste it. If it's still a little hard, keep it boiling for another 5 minutes or so.
Once the pasta is ready, add in the broccoli.
Now get a small saucepan and put it on a medium heat (about 4 or 5 if you're electric, halfway if you're gas.) Throw in your chunk of butter and as soon as it's melted, add in your flour and mix well.
Now drain the broccoli and pasta and put back into the big empty saucepan. Leave that on the hob for a second, but most importantly, off the heat.
Pour in a drop of milk into the flour and butter mixture and stir well until the buttery lump turns a bit more liquidy. Keep pouring in the milk and stirring until it makes a smooth and creamy sauce. This may take up to 5 to 10 minutes, so keep going with it.
Once it's at a smooth and creamy texture, pour it into the large saucepan with the broccoli and pasta and mix well.
Put under the grill for about 5 to 10 minutes, until the cheddar cheese has melted and gone all gooey and the breadcrumbs have turned golden brown.
Serve with some vegetables.
